Great Alternatives to Hard-To-Get Disney Dining

Disappointed that you couldn't snag the dining reservation your family wanted? No worries! Here is a list of my favorite dining locations that are often available as alternatives to the 'hard to get' dining locations.

If you follow Walt Disney World news or talk to family or friends, you’ve most likely heard about many of the popular and highly-rated dining spots. These hyped-up table service options are buzzed about for a reason… getting a reservation can be tough. But there’s no need to panic! There are SO many delicious dining spots in Walt Disney World. Let’s check out some underrated substitutes for those sought-after spots:

Instead of Cinderella’s Royal Table… Try Akershus

Cinderella’s Royal Table is a popular dining spot, and it makes sense. Who wouldn’t want to eat in the middle of Magic Kingdom in an actual castle while you mingle with Cinderella and friends? But there are other options for princess enthusiasts. Instead of Cindy’s, try a meal at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. Located in EPCOT’s Norway Pavilion in the World Showcase, Akershus hosts dinner each night after 3:00 pm, with breakfast and lunch reopening May 14, 2023. Diners can meet a host of their favorite princesses at this Norwegian castle, including classic favorites such as Snow White, Ariel, Jasmine and Belle. While CRT boasts a lovely (and pricey) table-service spread, Akershus is all-you-care-to-enjoy and served family style. The cozy castle vibes and mix of traditional Norwegian fare with classic American favorites will appeal to adventurous and picky eaters alike.

Instead of Chef Mickey’s Breakfast… Try Cape May Café

To many guests, Chef Mickey’s in the Contemporary Resort is quintessential character dining. This raucous buffet provides universally appealing food selections and a guaranteed Fab 5 sighting. Breakfast is especially popular with families, allowing diners to walk to Magic Kingdom right after their meal. But Chef Mickey’s can be tough to score, and it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, especially those craving a more relaxed vibe. Enter Cape May Café in Disney’s Beach Club Resort. This all-you-care-to-enjoy character buffet serves the same classic breakfast favorites but at a slightly lower price than Chef Mickey’s (don’t sleep on the Salted Caramel Beach Buns). You also get lots of face time with Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Goofy, dressed in their best beach attire. Beach Club is walking distance to EPCOT and a boat ride away from Hollywood Studios, making this breakfast stop a great start to your park day.

How can anyone not love Minnie in her beach gear at Cape May Cafe??

Instead of ‘Ohana… Try Kona Café

‘Ohana is one of the most sought-after reservations on Disney property. Located in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, this all-you-care-to-enjoy family dinner feast is a favorite among WDW regulars. But that makes it a tough ticket. The ‘Ohana noodles and bread pudding are top notch, but the price tag and family-style platters might not be everyone’s style. Craving the Polynesian flare and the yummy food without the hassle? Head to Kona instead. This restaurant is the Poly’s underrated gem, located on the second floor of Great Ceremonial House. Take a relaxing break from the hectic Magic Kingdom bustle while you get your fill of tropical vibes. With tuna, poke, Asian specialties and delicious steaks, Kona will have you saying “’Ohana who?”

Instead of California Grill… Try Narcoossee’s

Don’t misunderstand… I LOVE California Grill. The signature restaurant on the top of the Contemporary Resort is one of my all-time favorites. Known for its jaw-dropping view of Seven Seas Lagoon and the Magic Kingdom and the high-end menu, it’s a favorite… but it’s not the only dinner with a view on the lagoon. For a change of pace, try Narcoossee’s, the recently renovated and elegant, yet casual seafood restaurant in the Grand Floridian Resort, reopening April 1, 2023. Located in a circular building with beautiful water views, this signature restaurant boasts a new menu to go with the newly refurbished décor. Seafood is the star, but you can definitely grab a steak here that will rival Cali Grill. The water views are impressive, and the location in WDW’s flagship Deluxe Resort makes the whole night feel special.
