A brand new fastpass system is going into effect at Walt Disney World beginning July 24th. The system is almost here, and guests may be wondering how this will affect their upcoming visit. How is it different from Genie +? And what are the benefits? Here is an explanation on the new system and tips on how to prepare for the new change.
What is the new system?
The new fastpass system will consist of two types of passes, Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass. Lightning Lane Multi Pass is taking the place of Genie+, and Lightning Lane Single Pass is taking the place of Individual Lightning Lane service.
Guests can purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass to book up to three attractions with specific arrival times in advance of their visit. Once a guest’s first pass has been redeemed on the day of their visit, the guest is then eligible to book an additional attraction, subject to availability. Lightning Lane Multi Pass can be compared to a mixture of Disney’s old FastPass system and Genie +.
Guests may also purchase a Lightning Lane Single Pass (purchase up to two per day) for some of Disney’s most popular attractions — those not available with Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
Guests can purchase both types of passes, but attractions available to book with Lightning Lane Single Pass are not available to book with Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
A list of attractions and which category they fall under can be found here.
How and when do I book Lightning Lane passes?
Lightning Lane Passes can be booked through the My Disney Experience app. Guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel and other select hotels (Swan and Dolphin Hotels, Shades of Green Resort) can book their passes up to 7 days in advance of their visit. Guests staying in other hotels or guests visiting for the day can purchase passes up to 3 days in advance of their visit.
Guests staying at a Disney Resort who plan to visit the parks on more than one day can book all of their passes for the entirety of their trip on the day their booking window opens. However, with Lightning Lane Multi Pass, all three selections must be made at one individual park. If a guest plans to visit multiple parks on one day, there is no option to book your advance passes across multiple parks – even with valid Park Hopper admission. Once a guest has redeemed their first pass on the day of their visit, they can then book an additional pass selection at a different park if they wish to park hop. These additional selections are subject to availability, and guests must have valid park admission with park hopper benefits in order to book additional passes at a different park.
Guests can see what attractions/selections are available to book before they make their purchase. Both Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass can be purchased on the app in one transaction, or in the same cart. The exact cost of this service is unknown at this time.
What are the benefits?
The new Lightning Lane Passes will allow guests to plan more of their vacation in advance rather than planning during their vacation. This provides guests with more confidence about what to expect, and it makes it easier for guests to plan ahead and save time in line.
