The standby line at TRON / Lightcycle Run in Magic Kingdom is officially open! Guests visiting Walt World Resort can now ride TRON without having to book a virtual queue. So, what does this mean? Are the wait times longer or shorter? Here’s what you need to know!
Since there is no virtual queue in place for TRON, guests do not have to choose between the virtual queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and TRON. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is now the only ride in Magic Kingdom with a virtual queue in place. If guests do not want to wait in a long line for TRON, they may book a Lightning Lane (LL) Single Pass, which averages about $20 per person for this ride. The LL Single Pass can be booked for TRON up to 7 days in advance for guests staying at a Disney Resort Hotel and up to 3 days in advance for all other guests. If, however, guests do not want to purchase a LL Single Pass, they may now stand in line and wait to ride TRON.
A popular way guests minimize their standby wait time is by “rope dropping” a ride. When you rope drop a ride, you arrive at the park before it opens, and you immediately head to the ride of your choice as soon as the “rope drops” and the park officially opens. Guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel often have priority and can enter the park 30 minutes earlier than other guests when Early Entry is in place. However, TRON is not active during Early Entry, and guests must wait until the park officially opens in order to ride.
Many guests have chosen to rope drop TRON to minimize their wait in the standby line. If you choose to rope drop TRON, you will be guided by cast members all the way to the ride. Guests who have rope dropped TRON recommend staying on the right hand side of the flow of traffic, as the crowd is eventually merged into a line on the right. If you are at the front of the crowd during rope drop, your wait can be as low as 10 minutes, or perhaps even lower. If you are at the back of the crowd, the wait can be an hour long, or even more.
Even though rope drop is a good time to hop in line for TRON, the wait time can often be lower right after the initial rope drop crowd disperses. Some guests have waited about 20 to 30 minutes to ride TRON an hour after the park opened, which is shorter than the 60 minute wait for those who were at the end of the rope drop crowd. If you wish to rope drop a different ride, you can do so, and come back to TRON once the rope drop crowd has died down. Remember you can keep your eye on the Tip Board located in the My Disney Experience App to see current wait times. When you see the wait time at TRON trending down after the park has opened, it is likely a good time to get in line.
The best time to get in line for TRON is going to depend on your unique plan for your vacation. If you are able to get at the front of the rope drop crowd, you may want to rope drop. If you have Early Entry and don’t want to wait for the park to open, you may want to rope drop a different ride and return to TRON once the crowd has dispersed.
